The Movement Toward Greater Authenticity & Purpose in Business

Is what once worked no longer working? Do you find it hard to do simple business activities you used to do easily before? Does the way you do business no longer feel right, as though something is off?

There is a major movement happening in the world right now. This movement is one that is toward purpose and authenticity.

At a deep level we are being called to let go of things that are no longer congruent. Ways of being, ways of doing things, ways of operating in business that don’t match your truest self are being called to be brought into alignment or dropped.

This isn’t an enjoyable process if you don’t realize what is really happening. It can look like the old ways of marketing or selling no longer creating the results they used to, sales may be dropping. It can create a lot of stress.

If this is happening for you then you’re not alone. It’s happening for a lot of people right now, at all levels of business.

We are being called to a greater expression of who we are and of our purpose.

Business models or systems that don’t allow the full expression of who we are will stop working or it will take an exhausting amount of effort to keep them going.

Systems that restrict your essence, your truth, your fullest expression of who we are must be updated and revised to be brought into alignment with our truth.

Right now more than ever is the time to delve into discovery. We are in a time of discovery, of exploration of what is true and congruent and what is not, of seeing the truth clearly.

It’s not a time of spontaneous major changes, there’s no need to take unnecessary risks. This cycle takes time to delve into. Give some space in your day to reflect.  Open to new possibilities even if you’re not yet sure what form they’ll take.

Begin now, open your mind for a moment and reflect on or write out: What still works well for me in my business? What feels good? What doesn’t feel good? What feels way off? What no longer feels tolerable? What part of me still longs to be expressed or given a place in my business?  What do I feel like I’m missing in my business?

Please share what resonates from this article and what you’ve noticed hasn’t been working as it used to, or what you feel called to incorporate more of to be more congruent in your business.  You’re not alone on this journey, many are in it. Humanity is in a cycle of completion and ending old patterns and ways of being that no longer serve. Benefits come when the truth is faced and we open our minds to what is congruent for us.

Is Doing What “Works” No Longer Working?

One of my gifts is hyper-awareness of the alignment with truth.  If someone is saying or doing something that doesn’t match the core of their being, I pick up on it quickly. It doesn’t matter if I just met the person, I can feel their congruence, this is my gift.

I see it in the business world all of the time. People doing what “works,” yet what works isn’t fully a match to who they truly are. I can feel the level of incongruence. Often they feel it too, they’re just doing what works, they’re told it’s the “right” way to do it to make money so they follow along.

It’s not coming from a bad place. Often the person just wants to do what they love rather than be stuck in an old career they don’t like. To finally have the peace of mind knowing that they finally made it, they’re succeeding in the work they’re called to do, they’re fulfilling the purpose that’s inside of them.

It all comes from a good place. It’s a step in the right direction, to stepping into greater purpose. Yet doing what “works” that isn’t fully congruent places a major limit on the person’s ability to realize their full potential.

The fullest expression of their purpose can’t happen when authenticity is diluted or squished in the process.

As of the time of writing this, I’ve just spent 7 months face-to-face with the cost of having done this myself. Only this time, what worked before no longer works.  This time, I couldn’t keep doing what didn’t match my insides.

I’ve known forever that I’m a creator of content. I’m a spiritual teacher and there is likely no limit to the new expressions I can bring to the world. It’s my passion to continually explore on my own journey of transformation and to share the transformational tools and principles that come out of this exploration.

There are probably a thousand business models I could use to be fully congruent and natural in my business. But I didn’t find them. Instead, I modeled those who create a program or series of programs once, then gear the entire business toward reaching more and more people to take them through those set programs.

While this is an ideal model for many, over time it kills my passion, my enthusiasm and the spark that drives my entire business. My natural gifts, passion, enthusiasm, sense of curiosity and wonder I have are, over time, completely suppressed using this model.

For 5 years I’ve tried to squish myself into this box that I didn’t fit in. I tried to “get excited” about teaching the same content. I would try to find new twists on the old content so I could somehow draw out some enthusiasm from inside of me. Once in a while, I would create a new program and those were the best times (which by the way also created the best results… on this journey I’ve learned that sales are directly proportionate to passion).  Yet now I can see it’s no longer sustainable.

The ridiculous thing about all of this is, I am a naturally enthusiastic person. I don’t need to work to find enthusiasm, it is my natural state. Which I knew all along, but kept going with what sort of “worked”. Worked to help me create a multi-6-figure business that has helped a lot of people.

Yet what I contemplate is this. If I can create these results and transformation in the world without all of my full self and full passion engaged, what could I create if I had my natural enthusiasm and passion fueling me? And what transformation could I create in the world if I shared all I had inside, not just a small portion of it?

Business models aren’t wrong. The business world isn’t wrong. There is not an absolute “right” or “wrong” way to do business. Yet there is a right or wrong way to do business for you.

Doing what “works” must not only mean doing what creates the results. Doing what “works” must evolve to become doing what allows us to be fully expressed as we create the results.

We don’t need to lose ourselves to succeed.

There’s a deeper reason I did this. I’ve been focusing on healing the deeper reasons for it for about 4 years now. I guess that’s why I’m finally facing this and am no longer able to keep going as I was.  Doing what “works” without doing what works for me, for my soul, for my insides, is no longer tolerable.

I’m turning a corner. I’m turning toward living into and expressing my full potential. As risky as it feels, I’m doing what’s right for me. Which I know deep in my bones is what’s right for the world, for all those who are meant to be touched and transformed by the messages that have been stuck inside of me, unable to get out.

Take a moment to reflect for yourself. What have you been doing that “works” yet isn’t fully in alignment with who you are? What doesn’t quite feel good to you? What might feel better? What feels missing for you?

Have you put yourself in a box?

BoxI have recently been exploring the ways I’ve put myself into a box in my business. I put myself into a box for very logical, practical reasons.  This box has a lot of wonderful things in it, awesome clients, lots of money, recognition, opportunities. Yet this box has neglected one very important part of who I am at my core, the most important fuel that exists, my passion.

I am doing the work I am passionate about. I left behind my old career to have more passion. Yet the way I’ve set it up has left parts of me longing to be expressed, sitting in the background completely bored.

There’s a risk in changing what is working, yet there’s a huge risk in ignoring this part of me that is so important.  The risk of sabotage in the future gets greater the longer I ignore it.

I’ve already made a commitment to myself, to reshape what I’m doing so my passion is present as fully as possible within the current structure.  Yet I am completely open to a new way of doing things, to a new way of working that serves the most fully and allows me to give all I’ve got.

3 Abundance Lessons from Nature

HydrangeasI’ve been spending a lot of time outside lately, now that it’s nice out.  This time, I’m not walking to get from point A to point B and back or to give my dog Gina exercise.  I’ve been following the natural impulse I had to get outside.  I’ve slowed down, I’ve been present as I walk or sit out in nature.

And today I noticed something powerful as I lay down on a bench to look at the sky.  I saw big trees in the distance.  And I felt a deep connection to nature in that moment.  Along with a powerful realization:

Trees just are.  There’s no trying to be better than, more than or different than who they are.  A tree knows it’s a tree and doesn’t try to pretend it’s a bird.

In nature there is total acceptance of what is.  No pretending, no striving.

Yet in nature there is nothing but endless abundance.  Everywhere you look.

Maybe nature has some secrets we can learn from…

For years I’ve always believed that our purpose is to be who we are.  And that any filter or mask that aims to please or gain approval is something the Universe will eventually guide you to drop.  Because being you is what the world needs.

You have a unique purpose that is only carried out by being exactly who you are. 

And just like a tree, its entire potential of who it could become was held within the seed it started out as.  To resist allowing the full YOU to be expressed in your life and business is like trying to make a tree become a flower.  It just doesn’t work.

The degree to which you compromise who you are to succeed is the degree to which you will feel unsatisfied with the success you create.

If you can even create it.  It’s very tiring trying to be anything but who you are.  The mask of approval is far too heavy.

I’ve seen 3 ways many people lose themselves in their business, stopping the abundance their true nature has for them:

1. They try to solve all of the problems of their clients

I’ve been seeing this over and over lately.  If you have a unique purpose then doing anything for your clients that is not your purpose is simply going to leave you drained and exhausted.

Not to mention, since it’s not your purpose to be all things to all people, you’re forgetting something important:

You really aren’t good at what’s not your purpose

That means two things.  One, the results your clients create from working with you aren’t as powerful as they could be.  Two, it feels like you’re never quite “enough” no matter how much you give which just leads to feeling deflated.

If you stick with what you KNOW you’re here to do, creating the transformation you know you’re here to create in your clients’ lives, you are in accordance with your nature and you create profound results for your clients.

Know the piece you bring to your clients and let them know what it is.  And if they need another piece you can let them know that too.

2. They catch “mentor-itis”

This infection is so sneaky and damaging that my friend Karen Evelyn and I gave it a name.

Mentor-itis.

Mentor-itis is what happens when you try to be something you’re not because a mentor tells you to.  Or maybe you just try to “please” the mentor, to be a good student and willingly become “pleasing” instead of you.

I’ve repeatedly had mentor-itis in my business.  And had to recover from it each time.

The truth is, only YOU know what you bring to the world.  Only YOU know what feels right to you in your business.  Only you can say things the way you’re meant to and your ideal clients need to hear.

Yes, I am a huge fan of having a mentor, one that resonates with you.  They save you time and help you succeed faster.  I believe they are necessary and have had many in the past.

Yet you can’t throw away the YOU in your business because a mentor says you should.  You also don’t want to be more than you are or do work for your clients that’s not you because a mentor says it’s a good idea.  You will lose motivation and it will be WAY more effort.  Success becomes hard because you don’t even really want to do the work.

3. They don’t realize the deeper blocks to allowing their true nature

If just being who you are was easy, I think most people would just do it.  They wouldn’t struggle with it.

I am an intuitive, I am a healer.  I do some different work in the world.  Very different work in the world of business.

Yet where did I start out?  As a Mechanical Engineer.

If being me was so easy, I would have just delved into the world of the intuitive right off the bat.  But I didn’t.  I hid who I really was with all I could.  I hid it so well I didn’t even know who I really was inside.

And even when I started to pursue my intuitive gifts and share them through a business I still was trying to hide,  playing small and not feeling safe enough to share my gifts in a bigger way.

When I finally began to pinpoint the deeper energetic blocks in my way and healing them using the Intuitive Healing Process, I finally felt safe being me in my business.

I could breathe easier, I could be myself more and my work became more enjoyable.  Not only that, I was being me more fully and my sales more than tripled in 5 months.

You are meant to live according to your nature.  Your nature is your gift.  And uncovering your true nature and operating your business according to your true nature is the most prosperous gift you can give yourself and the world.

Many people have no clue what deep energetic blocks are stopping them from feeling safe being who they are and sharing their true selves through their business.

Yet it costs so much in time, energy and lack of motivation.

3 Sneaky Ways Your Business Becomes A J-O-B (and How to Avoid it!)

What did you dream of when you first started your business?  Was it to do what you love?  To finally have an outlet to express that deeper part of you that was aching to be shared?

You’d think starting a business doing what you love would resolve this problem.  Yet simply changing what you DO rarely resolves what’s inside of you that created it in the first place.

Here are 3 traps many entrepreneurs get stuck in that end up making business feel like a job.  And who wants that!  Take a look to see how this may be showing up for you so you can turn it around and not let your business become a J-O-B:

#1 Hide Who They Are To Be “Liked”

Your purpose is to full out be YOU.  Your people need the full out you.  They need the full essence and expression of who you are.  They need your unique way of saying things and doing things.

Your people need your full out expression in order to experience the biggest transformation when they work with you.

I remember in the first years of my business writing articles in a way that would be “acceptable” even to an Engineer (which was my old career).  It was SO much harder than just writing what I felt like writing.

One day I realized… My people are not left-brained logical engineers.  My people GET me, why am I holding back my expression just to please someone who isn’t even in my audience?!?!

If people like you for being NOT YOU that actually means you aren’t liked at all, you’re hiding just like you were in your job!  Your people LIKE you, but they’ll likely only get to like you if they SEE you and FEEL the real you.

Exploration Time: Where might you be holding back your expression in your business?  Where might you be offering your watered down version of you and your message?  What gifts might you be holding back from your clients (the very ones they need or they wouldn’t have found you!)?

#2 Do It All Themselves

I don’t know about you but being an admin person is not fun for me at all.  I’d rather be doing anything else!  Same with bookkeeping, yuck!!!

As soon as possible it’s important to begin handing over your tasks that aren’t YOU to those who love to do it.  If you feel you can’t afford it I get it.  When I hired my assistant Karen, I couldn’t really afford it at the time, yet that fuelled me to just grow my business!

You are meant to do what you love, and sure there may be tasks you don’t fully enjoy, but those should be the exception.  Right now, whether you’re ready at this moment to bring in support or not, start building the vision of your business where you are supported, actually doing what you love with your time and not the tasks you don’t.

Exploration Time:  What tasks would I LOVE to have someone else do?  What would I feel SO relieved to hand over to someone else and know it was getting done?  What type of skills might this person have?  What personality would I enjoy working with?

#3 Pleasing Others For The Money

Your purpose is not to be the person who pleases everyone.  Your purpose is unique, specific to you and something no one else can fulfil but you. 

Trying to please people in a way that’s not in alignment with who you really are actually takes you out of your purpose and dilutes your energy, passion and message.  All of this leads to a decrease in your energy and therefore motivation and magnetism to those you’re actually meant to reach.

Let’s look at an example.  Let’s say you have a healing ability that works really well with women wanting to lose weight.  And losing weight is a huge passion for you because you had lost 50 lbs in the past and you love to help women experience the transformation you’ve experienced.

Then Joe comes along and has issues getting motivated to go to work, his job has lost its meaning.  You know your healing process may help him and you feel you need the money so you take him on as a client.

In cases like this “pleasing” backfires anyway.  You’ll never make the difference in a non-ideal client’s life as you would in an ideal client’s life.  Everyone loses when pleasing is in business.  And working with a non-ideal client just for the money puts you right back into the J-O-B zone.

Exploration Time: Take a look at your business from an outside perspective.  Ask yourself: What am I doing just for the sake of pleasing others that I don’t really want to do?  How am I modifying my work to accommodate clients instead of trusting that who I am is perfect for my ideal clients?  In what ways may I be “selling out” for money?

3 New Energetic Challenges To Step Up to in 2013

Now more than ever, there are new energies coming in to support our growth and evolution at a rapid pace.  It is an amazing energy that can draw you into the highest and greatest experiences in life.  Yet, it’s not always a walk in the park.  I’d love to share with you a few tips to understand and handle this new energy that’s here that has a huge impact in your business.

The energy we are in, more than any other time in history, is the energy of “Illumination”. 

Doesn’t that sound all rosy and nice…  Illumination.  Bright, shiny, glowing, radiant, enlightening – Illumination.

Illumination can be a wonderful thing, but there’s another side to illumination you may not be as aware of.  One I first became aware of after beginning to read Kryon channels years ago by Lee Carroll (a man who channels and was invited repeatedly to channel at the UN www.kryon.com).

The challenge with Illumination is that it means the light is being turned on.  Not just in the nice, beautiful places you’re so used to.  The light is also shining into those really dark places you’ve wanted to ignore your whole life.  All those things you’ve swept under the carpet are now visible and getting attention.

When the light turns on, it illuminates the dark places.  And it’s often not a pretty sight.  I believe that’s what we’re seeing in the world today.  The dark is being exposed.

So what the heck does this have to do with your business?

Everything.

Light demands integrity, clarity, truth.  It calls any darkness out to be dealt with.  This creates many challenges in business to be faced and dealt with.

Here are 3 ways this new energy may show up in your business:

1) Motivation

Have you felt a loss of motivation lately?  The old motivators not quite doing it for you anymore?  Perhaps money or recognition drove you in the past and now it simply doesn’t drive you like it used to.  Perhaps being motivated to succeed to “prove” you’re worthy or capable of success just doesn’t work either.

In this new energy, results created from old motivators fall flat or just don’t happen like they used to.

We are being called to move to a deeper, more sustainable fuel source.  The fuel of your natural essence, your Divine nature.  This can only be accessed when the old motivators and the reasons for their existence fall away.  We are being called to live from the core truth of who we are rather than the old programming of the past.

2) Lack of Clarity

Sometimes in the new energy you can end up in a state of confusion or lack of clarity.  This is often a great sign that rewiring is happening internally.

This often happens to bring about a deeper energy of truth from within you to be expressed in your business.  I truly believe that your purpose in your business is to be as fully YOU as possible.

Often times of confusion or lack of clarity is here to help you do just that.  What no longer excites you? What could you let go of or adjust so it feels like YOU?  Embrace the gift of confusion as a way to take you higher, to greater fulfillment, passion and money.

3) Facing the Truth

The days of ignoring your intuition, of ignoring what doesn’t feel right inside and powering through are winding down.  We are moving into a time of Truth, of Realness.

It is a time of facing the truth, which may not always be pleasant but is necessary.

Facing the truth of your feelings about many things in your business may sometimes feel scary, yet how can you create a business that feels thoroughly good if you don’t face the fact that some aspects of your business don’t feel good?

I’m a big believer in the Law of Attraction, it’s important, yet what is also becoming more and more important is HONOURING yourself.  Denial is an energy we are being called to let go of.

In this new energy, ignoring the truth might work for a while, but don’t be surprised if something happens to shake things up and make you face it eventually anyway.

The promise of facing the truth is being able to create TRUE happiness, creating success that is truly fulfilling, creating your business match your true nature.

Just because you face the truth doesn’t mean you have to change anything.  Honour yourself by facing the truth and opening the door to what can be.
